The RUUD 42-24196-83 is a pressure switch designed for use in RUUD gas furnace applications. This component monitors negative pressure created by the inducer motor during furnace operation. When the inducer establishes correct draft, the pressure switch closes to allow the control board to continue the ignition sequence. If draft pressure falls outside the rated setpoint of 1.11 inches water column (WC), the switch opens and interrupts the ignition sequence as a safety measure. Licensed HVAC technicians install and replace this switch as part of routine diagnostics and preventive maintenance on gas-fired heating systems.
This pressure switch is used on RUUD residential gas furnaces across several model families. It is appropriate for forced-air gas furnace systems where inducer-proving switches are required as part of the ignition safety control sequence. The switch is a direct-service part suited for replacement during no-heat service calls where inducer pressure switch failure has been diagnosed through manifold or digital manometer testing.
Designed for use on RUUD gas furnaces in the following model families: RGRA, RGTA, 90RS, 90TS, RGRS, RGTS, RGSA, RGRJ, and RGTJ.
Installation and replacement of gas furnace pressure switches should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. Before servicing, shut off power to the furnace at the disconnect or breaker and set the thermostat to the off position. Inspect the pressure switch hose and port for blockage or cracks before installing the replacement switch, as hose degradation is a common cause of switch failure. Work should comply with applicable local mechanical codes and the furnace manufacturer service instructions.
