The RUST-OLEUM C9578402 is the base component of the C9578 System Coal Tar Epoxy, a high-solids, polyamide-converted epoxy coating formulated with refined coal tar pitch. This product is sold as the base only and requires a separate activator to form the two-component system. Once mixed and cured, it delivers an extremely durable, high-build protective film rated at 16 to 24 mils in a single coat. Designed for severe industrial and marine environments, it resists strong chemicals, heavy abrasion, and continuous immersion in non-potable water. Licensed coating applicators and industrial painters are the primary installers of this system.
This coating is applied to steel, concrete, and similar substrates in highly corrosive environments such as water treatment infrastructure, marine structures, fuel storage tanks, and underground piping systems. It is self-priming, reducing prep steps in many applications. Rust-Oleum recommends pairing this system with HS9300 System Epoxy Primer for best adhesion on demanding substrates. The gallon size suits smaller project areas or touch-up work within a larger coating scope.
Formulated for use on steel, concrete, and other substrates in severely corrosive industrial and marine environments. Recommended for use with HS9300 System Epoxy Primer. This is the base component only; the C9578 System activator must be ordered separately to complete the two-component system.
This product is a two-component epoxy system — mix only the base and activator together in the correct ratio before application; do not apply base alone. Surface preparation should meet the specification requirements referenced in the product documentation, including appropriate blast or mechanical cleaning profiles. Application should be performed by qualified coating professionals familiar with industrial epoxy systems, proper ventilation requirements, and applicable safety regulations. Keep the coating away from potable water contact surfaces.
