The RUST-OLEUM 9171402 is a two-component, direct-to-metal (DTM) epoxy mastic coating formulated for high-performance protective applications. Part of the 9100 System, this 1-gallon base coat in Dunes Tan with a gloss finish delivers a single-coat film build equal to multiple coats of standard epoxy. The self-priming formula bonds directly to metal and a wide range of other substrates without a separate primer coat. It provides superior long-term resistance to solvents, chemicals, abrasion, and impact. Licensed contractors, industrial painters, and maintenance professionals install this product in commercial and industrial settings where maximum corrosion protection is required.
The 9171402 is suited for use on steel, concrete, and other prepared substrates in both interior and exterior environments. It is appropriate for floor-coating applications, structural steel, equipment housings, and secondary containment areas. The coating meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities, making it a viable choice for food processing and light industrial facilities. Multiple activator options allow this base coat to be tailored to specific job conditions, including low-temperature environments, immersion service in fresh or salt water, and fast-cure schedules to minimize downtime.
Designed for use as the base component of the RUST-OLEUM 9100 System DTM Epoxy Mastic; requires a separately ordered activator. Activator options include Standard (50-100 degrees F), Immersion (fresh or salt water, up to 125 degrees F water temperature, not for potable water tanks), Low-Temperature (40-60 degrees F), and Fast-Cure (50-100 degrees F, recoat in 4 hours at 70 degrees F and 50 percent RH).
Application is typically performed by licensed industrial or commercial painters following applicable safety and environmental regulations. Power down or de-energize any equipment being coated before surface preparation begins. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and properly prepared prior to application — follow the manufacturer's surface preparation guidelines for the specific substrate. Mix base and activator at a 1:1 ratio immediately before use and apply within the product's pot life window; do not thin beyond recommended limits.
