The RUST-OLEUM 9122402 is a two-component, direct-to-metal (DTM) epoxy mastic coating formulated for high-performance corrosion protection on metal and concrete substrates. This 1-gallon base unit in Marlin Blue gloss is part of the 9100 System, a self-priming formula that bonds directly to prepared metal without a separate primer coat. The 1:1 mix ratio by volume eliminates measuring — each base kit pairs with a separately purchased activator. The cured film delivers superior resistance to solvents, chemicals, abrasion, and impact. Formulated with less than 340 VOCs and meeting USDA requirements for incidental food contact, this coating is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities. Licensed applicators and industrial maintenance painters are the primary installers.
The 9100 System is suited for industrial and commercial maintenance painting applications including structural steel, process equipment, secondary containment, and concrete floors. Four activator options extend the usable range of this coating: Standard Activator for air and surface temps of 50 to 100 degrees F, Low-Temperature Activator for 40 to 60 degrees F conditions, Fast-Cure Activator for recoat in 4 hours at 70 degrees F and 50 percent relative humidity, and Immersion Activator for fresh or salt water immersion of steel or concrete where water temperatures do not exceed 125 degrees F. The Immersion Activator is not suitable for potable water tanks.
Designed for application over a variety of substrates including bare metal, previously coated steel, and concrete surfaces prepared to the appropriate cleanliness standard. Activators are sold separately and must be matched to application conditions. The Immersion Activator is not approved for use in potable water tanks.
Application should be performed by qualified industrial painters or maintenance coating professionals familiar with two-component epoxy systems. Mix base and activator thoroughly at the specified 1:1 ratio and allow proper induction time before application. Ensure air and surface temperatures fall within the range specified for the chosen activator before and during application. Personal protective equipment including respirators and chemical-resistant gloves is required when handling epoxy coatings and activators.
