The RUST-OLEUM 9041H Varathane Gloss Interior Polyurethane is a solvent-based topcoat formulated from a blend of alkyd and oil-modified urethane resins. It produces a tough, hard protective film over interior wood surfaces and cures to a clear amber finish. The gloss sheen reflects light evenly and resists scuffs, stains, and everyday wear. Its optimized viscosity delivers excellent flow and leveling during application, reducing brush marks and minimizing lap lines. The formula dries quickly, allowing multiple coats in a single workday. Sold in a 1-quart container, this product is well suited for finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, and flooring contractors working on small-to-medium interior wood projects.
The 9041H is intended for use on interior wood surfaces in residential and light commercial settings. Suitable applications include hardwood and engineered wood floors, wall paneling, furniture, cabinets, trim, doors, and bar tops. The alkyd-urethane blend is designed for brush, roller, or wipe-on application over bare, stained, or previously finished wood that has been properly prepared. It is not intended for exterior use or surfaces subject to prolonged moisture exposure.
Designed for use over interior bare wood, oil- or water-based stains, and previously cured oil-based finishes that have been lightly scuffed and cleaned. Not formulated for exterior, masonry, or metal substrates.
Application should be performed by a finish carpenter, cabinetmaker, or flooring professional in a well-ventilated area, keeping ignition sources away from solvent vapors during application and drying. Stir thoroughly before use — do not shake, as this introduces air bubbles into the film. Apply in thin, even coats, allowing full dry time between coats and sanding lightly with fine-grit abrasive between applications for best adhesion. Follow all local VOC regulations and safety data sheet guidance for personal protective equipment.
