The RUST-OLEUM 316535 is a 5-gallon pail of 3800 System DTM Acrylic Enamel finish in Safety Red with a gloss sheen. This water-based, direct-to-metal coating bonds without a primer, delivering strong adhesion and one-coat coverage on bare metal surfaces. It is formulated for indoor and outdoor use in mild to moderate corrosive environments. The fast-dry formula reaches a dry-to-touch state in 15 minutes, reducing downtime on the job. It applies with minimal brush drag and lays out evenly by roller, making it practical for both detail work and large surface applications.
This coating is suited for structural steel, equipment housings, railings, ductwork, and other metal surfaces in industrial, commercial, and institutional settings. The Safety Red gloss finish is commonly used for safety marking, equipment identification, and code-required color coding in facilities. It meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities, making it appropriate for food processing and food storage environments.
Designed for direct-to-metal application on bare or previously painted metal surfaces in indoor and outdoor environments exposed to mild to moderate conditions. Suitable for use within an application temperature range of 50 to 100 degrees F and relative humidity below 95 percent.
Surface preparation is critical — remove loose paint, rust, grease, and contaminants before application. Apply in conditions between 50 and 100 degrees F with relative humidity below 95 percent. Follow applicable local regulations and safety data sheet guidance for ventilation requirements during and after application. Allow adequate dry time before exposing the coated surface to service conditions.
