The RUST-OLEUM 316518 is a 5-gallon, light tint base, gloss-finish direct-to-metal (DTM) acrylic enamel engineered for indoor and outdoor metal coating applications. This water-based formula bonds directly to bare metal without a primer, delivering excellent corrosion resistance in mild to moderate environments. It dries in as little as 15 minutes, reducing downtime on the job. The coating lays out evenly under roller application with minimal brush drag, making it practical for large surface areas. Coating contractors, maintenance painters, and facility managers working on metal substrates are the primary installers of this product.
This coating is suited for direct application to metal surfaces in both residential and commercial settings where corrosion protection is required without the added step of priming. It performs well on structural steel, equipment housings, railings, and similar metal components exposed to mild to moderate environmental conditions. The formula meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food processing facilities, making it appropriate for food-adjacent environments. Application is rated for temperatures between 50 and 100 degrees F at relative humidity below 95 percent.
Designed as a direct-to-metal topcoat for bare or previously painted metal surfaces in indoor and outdoor environments rated for mild to moderate corrosive exposure. Part of the RUST-OLEUM 3800 System DTM Acrylic Enamel product line, available in 1-gallon and 5-gallon sizes.
Application should be performed by qualified painting contractors or maintenance personnel familiar with industrial coating procedures. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of oil, grease, and loose scale before application. Do not apply when ambient temperatures are below 50 degrees F or above 100 degrees F, or when relative humidity exceeds 95 percent. Follow all local and facility safety requirements for ventilation and personal protective equipment when working with coating materials.
