The RUST-OLEUM 313835 Varathane Weathered Wood Accelerator is a water-based interior wood treatment that reacts chemically with bare or untreated wood to create an aged, weathered, or charred appearance. Rather than applying a surface coating, it accelerates the natural oxidation and tannin-reaction process that occurs over time outdoors, producing a one-of-a-kind result. The finish will vary depending on wood species and grain density. Sold in a 1-quart unit weighing 2.3 pounds, it is applied with a synthetic bristle or foam brush and features a low-odor, water-based formula suited for indoor use by finish carpenters, cabinet makers, and woodworking tradespeople.
This product is intended for interior bare or untreated wood surfaces only. It is not rated for outdoor or exterior applications. Typical use cases include reclaimed-look millwork, interior paneling, furniture refinishing, and decorative woodworking projects where a natural aged or rustic appearance is desired. Because the accelerator reacts with the wood itself rather than sitting on the surface, the result differs by wood type, making it appropriate for projects where variation and character are part of the design intent.
Designed for use on bare or untreated interior wood surfaces. Not compatible with pre-finished, sealed, or painted wood. Not intended for outdoor surfaces.
Application should be performed by finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, or experienced woodworking professionals in a well-ventilated interior space. Ensure the wood surface is bare, clean, dry, and free of any existing finish, sealer, or contaminant before application. Apply using a synthetic bristle or foam brush in the direction of the grain, and allow adequate dry time before handling or topcoating. Follow all local VOC regulations and consult the product technical data sheet for recoat intervals and topcoat compatibility.
