The RUST-OLEUM 293438 is a gallon-sized efflorescence remover formulated to dissolve and lift white chalky mineral deposits and mild rust stains from concrete and masonry surfaces. Efflorescence forms when water carries soluble salts to the surface and they crystallize as the water evaporates — a common issue on block walls, poured concrete slabs, brick, and similar substrates. This product is sold in a unit of measure of one gallon. It is applied by contractors, masons, and concrete coating technicians as a surface prep step before sealing or coating work. The formulation is rated safe for use near grass and plants when applied as directed, making it practical for exterior flatwork and landscape-adjacent masonry.
This remover is suited for both interior and exterior applications on bare concrete and masonry. Typical use cases include prepping garage floors, basement walls, retaining walls, and exterior walkways or patios before the application of decorative coatings, sealers, or waterproofing systems. The product brightens concrete and masonry surfaces as part of the cleaning action. It is not intended for use on painted or previously coated surfaces — bare concrete and masonry are the target substrates.
Designed for use on bare concrete and masonry surfaces, including concrete block, poured concrete, and similar substrates. Not formulated for use on painted, sealed, or previously coated surfaces.
Application is typically performed by masonry contractors or concrete coating technicians as part of a surface preparation workflow. Protect adjacent metal fixtures and non-target surfaces before applying chemical cleaners. Allow the surface to dry fully and confirm efflorescence is fully removed before applying any sealer, primer, or decorative coating. Follow all label safety directions, including appropriate PPE for chemical handling.
