The RUST-OLEUM 283097 is a single-component, water-based elastomeric acrylic coating engineered for heavy-duty corrosion protection in aggressive industrial and marine environments. Sold in a 5-gallon pail and finished in a brown gloss, this high-build formula is self-priming and delivers one-coat coverage on new or minimally prepared steel, metal, and concrete substrates. At 200% elasticity, it bridges small cracks and flexes with structural movement to maintain a continuous protective barrier. Certified per ISO Standard 12944 for corrosivity class C5-M High, it provides documented performance in severe marine conditions. Weight is 55.5 pounds per unit.
The 283097 is suited for industrial maintenance, infrastructure, marine structures, and food-processing facilities requiring low-VOC, incidental-food-contact-compliant coatings. Its self-priming, high-build properties make it appropriate for plant maintenance crews, industrial coating contractors, and facility managers who need durable protection without the cost and downtime of abrasive blast cleaning. The formula meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities. A 10-year warranty applies subject to manufacturer restrictions.
Designed for application on new or minimally prepared steel, metals, and concrete surfaces. For new galvanized steel or smooth metal and concrete substrates, consult manufacturer primer recommendations before application.
Application should be performed by qualified industrial coating applicators or licensed painters familiar with surface preparation standards and coating specifications. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free of loose mill scale, oils, and contaminants prior to application per manufacturer guidelines. Follow all local VOC regulations and ventilation requirements during application and curing. Do not thin beyond manufacturer-specified limits, and consult the product data sheet for recoat windows and temperature constraints.
