The RUST-OLEUM 283085 is a heavy-duty, water-based elastomeric acrylic coating engineered for ultra-rugged protection in aggressive and corrosive environments. Sold as a single 5-gallon pail in an off-white gloss finish, this single-component, self-priming, high-build formula delivers one-coat coverage on new or minimally prepared steel, metals, and concrete. It stretches to 200% elasticity, allowing it to bridge small cracks and flex with the structure while maintaining a continuous protective barrier. Low VOC content meets compliance requirements nationwide, and the coating satisfies USDA requirements for incidental food contact.
This coating is suited for industrial, commercial, and marine applications where corrosion, rust, and moisture exposure are primary concerns. It is certified by The Coatings Research Institute, Belgium, for corrosivity class C5-M High per ISO Standard 12944, making it appropriate for severe marine environments. Because it is self-priming and requires minimal surface preparation, it eliminates the need for abrasive-blast cleaning in many applications, reducing labor time. It is also accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities, broadening its usable environments.
Designed for application on new or minimally prepared steel, metals, and concrete surfaces. For new galvanized steel or smooth metals and concrete, consult manufacturer primer recommendations before application.
Application should be performed by a qualified coatings professional or industrial painter familiar with surface preparation standards and coating systems. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free of loose scale, oil, and contaminants before applying. Review local VOC regulations and any applicable facility or environmental codes prior to application. Follow manufacturer data sheet guidance for dry times before recoat or service exposure.
