The RUST-OLEUM 245474 is a high-gloss, direct-to-metal (DTM) alkyd enamel formulated for rust prevention and corrosion resistance on bare and previously painted metal surfaces. This 1-gallon unit delivers one-coat coverage in Safety Blue with a VOC content below 340 g/L, making it a lower-VOC option in the V7400 System line. It dries tack-free in 2 to 4 hours and is designed for moderate to slightly severe industrial environments where chemical exposure, weathering, and physical wear are ongoing concerns. Licensed coating applicators and industrial maintenance painters are the primary installers.
This coating is used across a wide range of industrial and commercial maintenance painting applications, including structural steel, equipment housings, railings, machinery, and other metal surfaces subject to corrosion. The Safety Blue color and gloss finish make it suitable for color-coded safety marking applications in manufacturing and warehousing environments. It meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food processing facilities, broadening its applicability in regulated environments.
Designed for use as part of the Rust-Oleum V7400 System. Maximum corrosion performance is achieved when used over a compatible V7400 System primer. Suitable for application over bare metal and properly prepared previously painted surfaces.
Surface preparation is critical — remove loose rust, mill scale, grease, and contaminants before application. Follow all applicable safety data sheet (SDS) guidelines, including use of appropriate respiratory protection in enclosed or low-ventilation areas. Stir thoroughly before use and apply at recommended film thickness; do not thin beyond the manufacturer-specified ratio. Allow full cure before exposing the coated surface to chemical contact or immersion conditions.
