The RUST-OLEUM 1282402 is a high-performance, direct-to-metal (DTM) alkyd enamel coating formulated for industrial and commercial metal protection. This 1-gallon, forest green, high-gloss enamel delivers maximum corrosion resistance in a single coat, drying tack-free in 2 to 4 hours. With a VOC content at or below 450 grams per liter, it meets compliance requirements for a range of regulated environments. The formula is engineered to resist chipping, fading, and weathering while providing a durable, high-solids finish on bare or primed metal surfaces. Painting contractors and maintenance professionals apply it in moderate to slightly severe industrial settings.
This coating is suited for use on metal structures, equipment, and fabricated components in both industrial and commercial environments. It performs in moderate to slightly severe exposure conditions where corrosion protection and finish durability are priorities. The 1282402 meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food processing facilities, making it appropriate for food-adjacent industrial applications. For best results, apply over a compatible 7400 System primer, such as the 7400 System Heavy Duty Rust Inhibitive Primer, 7400 System Fast Recoat Primer, or 7400 System Red Damp Proof Primer.
Designed for use over 7400 System Heavy Duty Rust Inhibitive Primers, 7400 System Fast Recoat Primer, and 7400 System Red Damp Proof Primer. Also suitable for direct application to clean, bare metal surfaces where a primer layer is not used.
Surface preparation is critical — remove loose rust, mill scale, grease, and contaminants before application. Apply using brush, roller, or conventional spray equipment appropriate for alkyd enamels. Ensure adequate ventilation during application and curing. Follow all applicable local and facility safety codes when working with solvent-based coatings in enclosed or food-adjacent spaces.
