It seats into a precision-cut external groove and holds components axially in place without threading or welding. The ring is manufactured from 15-7 Grade 632 stainless steel to AMS-5529 and UNS S15700 specifications, with a zinc finish for added surface protection. Hardness runs 47-52 HRC, giving the ring excellent resistance to deformation under load. A groove diameter of 1.291 inches and a ring thickness of 0.050 inches allow consistent seating in standard external grooves. Installation Notes

External retaining rings are installed and removed using dedicated retaining ring pliers matched to the ring lug holes — using improvised tools risks ring distortion or personal injury. Ensure the shaft groove dimensions match the ring specifications before installation. Inspect the groove for burrs or damage that could prevent full ring seating. Wear appropriate eye protection during installation, as the ring is under spring tension.
