The ROTOR CLIP CG-87SJ is an external spiral retaining ring designed for 7/8 inch (0.875 inches) shaft diameter applications. This single-turn spiral ring seats into a machined external groove on a shaft to retain components axially without requiring a tang or ear cutout in the ring face. Manufactured from AISI 302 stainless steel to AMS-5866 specification, it offers good corrosion resistance for use in wet, chemical, or outdoor environments. The ring measures 0.042 inches thick with a groove diameter of 0.821 inches and a free outside diameter of 0.964 inches. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and mechanical assembly professionals work with this style of retaining ring in precision shaft and bearing assemblies.
This retaining ring is suited for use in rotating shaft assemblies, pump components, motor shafts, and general industrial or commercial mechanical applications where an external groove retainer is required. The spiral design allows installation and removal without special snap ring pliers, using a simple push-on or tool-assisted slide method. The 302 stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for environments where carbon steel rings would face corrosion concerns, including food-processing adjacent equipment, marine hardware, and light chemical service assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style external spiral retaining ring for 7/8 inch shaft diameters with a machined external groove meeting the specified 0.821 inches groove diameter and 0.046 inches groove width dimensions. Verify groove geometry against the dimensional tolerances listed in the specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by mechanical assembly technicians using the appropriate spiral ring installation tool or a flat-blade tool to walk the ring into the groove from one end around the shaft circumference. Power down and de-energize any associated machinery before servicing shaft assemblies. Confirm the shaft groove dimensions match the ring tolerances prior to installation to prevent improper seating or ring failure under load. Do not reuse a ring that has been removed from service.
