The ROBROY PREYS16 is a hub-type sealing fitting designed for use in hazardous location conduit systems. It stops gases, vapors, and flames from migrating through conduit runs, limiting the spread of potential explosions and containing hazardous atmospheres. The body is constructed from ferrous metal with a 2 mil red urethane coating on the interior and a 40 mil gray PVC coating on the exterior, providing corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. The fitting features both male and female connection types with a 1.63-inch turning radius, sized for 1/2-inch trade conduit. Licensed electricians and industrial electrical contractors install this fitting in conduit systems where explosion containment is required by code.
The PREYS16 is rated for vertical mounting and is listed for use in Class I Division 1 and 2 Groups A, B, C, and D environments, as well as Class II Division 1 Groups E, F, and G, Class II Division 2 Groups F and G, and Class III locations. These ratings make it applicable in petrochemical facilities, grain handling operations, mining environments, and other industrial settings where ignitable gases, combustible dusts, or fibers may be present. The dual PVC and urethane coating system allows the fitting to perform reliably in corrosive atmospheric conditions common to these sites.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation sealing fitting for 1/2-inch trade size conduit runs in hazardous location electrical systems requiring NEC Article 501, 502, or 503 compliance.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the NEC and applicable local codes governing hazardous location wiring. De-energize and lock out all circuits before working on the conduit system. Sealing fittings must be filled with an approved sealing compound after installation to achieve the rated explosion-proof integrity. Vertical mounting orientation is required for this fitting per its listing.
