The ROBERT BOSCH TOOL GROUP DSB1017 is a 1-1/4 inch by 6 inch spade bit engineered for fast, clean drilling through wood framing, subflooring, and structural lumber. Part of the Daredevil line, it features a full cone threaded tip that pulls the bit into material without the need for excessive downward pressure, reducing fatigue on long runs. A contoured paddle design clears chips rapidly to prevent clogging and heat buildup. Spur and reamer tips score the perimeter of the hole before the paddle breaks through, resulting in cleaner entry and exit points. The 1/4 inch hex shank seats securely in standard impact drivers and drill chucks. This package includes 5 bits, making it suited to high-volume rough-in work.
The DSB1017 is used in residential and light commercial construction and remodeling where trade professionals need to bore through wood studs, joists, and plates for pipe, conduit, or wire runs. Plumbers, electricians, and HVAC installers running lines through framing will find the 5 inch drilling depth and aggressive chip removal particularly useful in tight bays. The 6 inch overall length provides reach beyond standard spade bits for through-stud applications without requiring an extension.
Designed for use with standard 1/4 inch hex chuck drills and impact drivers. Suitable for boring through softwood, hardwood, and engineered lumber in residential and light commercial framing applications.
Installation of this bit is performed by electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians during rough-in phases. Ensure the drill or driver is set to an appropriate speed for the material being bored; lower speeds are recommended for hardwoods to prevent bit deflection. Clear chips frequently when drilling deep holes to prevent binding. Always follow applicable NEC, IPC, or IFGC clearance requirements for holes bored near structural members.
