The ROBBJACK SS-2-042 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling in tight-tolerance applications. With a 0.042-inch cutting diameter and a 0.063-inch length of cut, this stub-length tool is built for shallow-profile work where rigidity and accuracy matter. The 2-flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation in a wide range of materials. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.125 inches in diameter and fits standard collet toolholders. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling precision aerospace, medical, or micro-component work are the primary users of this tool.
The SS-2-042 is suited for milling operations on small-feature components where a sub-0.050-inch tool diameter is required. Its stub length minimizes deflection during aggressive lateral passes. The uncoated solid carbide construction in ROBBJACK Tuffy material grade performs well in non-ferrous metals, plastics, and some hardened steels when used within recommended surface footage and feed rate parameters. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC milling setups.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with a 0.125-inch collet or toolholder accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Part of the ROBBJACK SS-2 series of stub-length solid carbide square end mills.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per shop safety protocols. Secure the 0.125-inch shank firmly in a matched collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-recommended clamping procedure. Avoid extending the tool beyond its designed stub-length profile, as excessive overhang will increase deflection and risk breakage at this small diameter. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts when working at sub-0.050-inch diameters.
