The ROBBJACK SS-2-022 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding production environments. This 2-flute tool features a 0.022-inch cutting diameter with a 0.033-inch length of cut, making it well suited for fine-detail milling, slotting, and profiling in tight geometries. The stub-length configuration keeps the tool rigid and minimizes deflection under load. With a right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute at a 30-degree helix angle, the SS-2-022 is built for center-cutting applications and can plunge directly into workpiece material. It ships uncoated from the ROBBJACK SS-2 series, using the Tuffy material grade of solid carbide.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and precision manual mills where small-diameter tooling is required. Typical applications include micro-slot milling, contour work, and finishing passes on metals, composites, and engineering plastics. The stub-length geometry and 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard collet systems commonly found in production and prototype machining shops. Machinists working in aerospace, medical device, and electronics fabrication frequently reach for tooling in this diameter range for fine-feature work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for CNC machining setups requiring a 1/8-inch shank, 0.022-inch diameter square end mill in the ROBBJACK SS-2 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing tooling. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the appropriate collet nut wrench when seating the shank in the collet to avoid over-tightening, which can damage the shank or collet bore. At this diameter, tool runout is critical - verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
