The ROBBJACK SB-301-06 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill in a stub-length configuration, designed for both roughing and finishing operations on a single pass. It carries a 0.1875-inch (3/16-inch) mill diameter, a 0.3125-inch length of cut, and a 2.0-inch overall length. The ball nose geometry produces a 0.0938-inch nose radius, which is suited to producing contoured surfaces and blended profiles. The uncoated, bright finish on Metric Tuffy Grade carbide makes this mill appropriate for dry or standard-coolant machining environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shops, mold work, and general precision machining are the primary installers of this tool.
This end mill is primarily suited for cutting cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The stub-length body reduces overhang and increases rigidity, which is useful in tight-clearance setups or shallow-cavity work where deflection would otherwise affect surface finish or dimensional accuracy. The 30-degree medium helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation while maintaining cutting stability. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional vertical and horizontal machining center setups. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders sized for 3/16-inch shanks.
Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO K) and non-ferrous metals (ISO N). Part of the ROBBJACK SB-301 series stub-length ball end mill line.
Installation is performed by machinists on CNC or manual milling machines using a collet chuck or end mill holder matched to the 3/16-inch shank diameter. Confirm the spindle and workholding are fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Check runout at the shank with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout on a stub-length tool will directly affect surface finish. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated speeds and feeds for the workpiece material being cut.
