The RITEN 71043 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and other machine tool setups requiring a fixed, non-rotating center point. Built from carbide-tipped steel, it provides a hardened contact surface that resists wear during high-speed or heavy-duty turning operations. The shank is machined to a 4MT Morse taper for direct mounting in compatible spindles and tailstocks. The head and point both measure 1.231 inches in diameter, and overall length is 6.75 inches. Accuracy is rated at 0.00005 inches, making it appropriate for close-tolerance turning work performed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This dead center is suited for manual and CNC lathe applications where a rigid, non-rotating center support is required at the tailstock end. Common uses include turning between centers on shafts, spindles, and cylindrical workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The carbide-tipped point withstands the heat and pressure generated at the contact point when the workpiece rotates against it, reducing the need for frequent replacement compared to unhardened steel centers.
Designed for use in machine tool spindles and tailstocks with a 4MT Morse taper bore. Verify taper size and bore dimensions against your lathe or machine tool specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with Morse taper tooling. Power down and de-energize the machine completely before inserting or removing the center. Clean the taper bore and the center shank with a lint-free cloth to remove chips, oil, and debris before seating, as contamination will prevent proper taper engagement and affect accuracy. Use the knockout bar or draw bolt appropriate to the machine to remove the center - never use excessive impact force against the center body.
