The RITCHIE ENGINEERING 60464 is a punch-type swaging tool designed for field and shop use by HVAC and refrigeration technicians. It produces a swaged socket on the end of a copper tube with a 1/4 inch outer diameter, allowing two tubes of the same size to be joined without a separate fitting. The tool drives into the tube end with a hammer or mallet, forming a clean, uniform bell that accepts a solder or braze joint. This design keeps connections tight and leak-free in refrigerant and other copper tubing systems.
The 60464 is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC and refrigeration work where 1/4 inch OD copper tubing is common. Typical applications include line set repairs, evaporator coil piping, and refrigerant circuit modifications. HVAC/R technicians use punch-type swagers when a tube expander or lever-style swaging kit is not practical or when working in tight spaces where a compact tool is preferred.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use punch swaging tool for 1/4 inch OD copper tubing applications in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC or refrigeration technician. Before swaging, recover all refrigerant from the system in accordance with EPA Section 608 regulations and ensure the system is fully depressurized. Use a hammer or mallet to drive the punch squarely into the tube end, and deburr the tube prior to swaging for a clean socket. Complete the joint using appropriate solder or brazing alloy per system requirements and local mechanical codes.
