The RHEEM 61-105338-89 is a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) designed for use in R410A refrigerant systems rated at 2.5 tons. This valve meters refrigerant flow into the evaporator coil, maintaining proper superheat and protecting the compressor from liquid slugging. The inlet connection is 3/8 ODF sweat-in, with a distributor outlet and a 1/4-inch sweat internal equalizer port. A 10% bleed capacity allows a small amount of refrigerant to bypass the valve seat, which supports system restart under certain load conditions. Licensed HVAC technicians handle installation as part of a split-system cooling or heat pump service call.
This TXV is applied in residential split-system applications using R410A refrigerant. It is specified for use in RP15 30 series equipment. The sweat-in inlet and distributor outlet configuration suits multi-circuit evaporator coils commonly found in residential condensing and heat pump systems. Technicians replacing a failed or mismatched expansion device on compatible equipment will find this valve a direct-fit solution based on the superseded part numbers listed in the supplier data.
Specified for use in RP15 30 series equipment. Replaces part numbers 61-105025-09, 61-105338-89, and 61-105338-09 per supplier data.
Installation must be performed by an EPA 608-certified HVAC technician. Recover all system refrigerant before opening the refrigerant circuit. Use nitrogen purge during brazing to prevent oxidation scale inside the valve and connecting tubing. After installation, evacuate the system to proper vacuum levels and verify superheat readings before returning the system to service.
