Product Description

The RH PETERSON G31-18/20AP is a three-tiered vented gas log burner designed for liquid propane service in single-sided, wood-burning fireplaces already equipped with a gas line. Rated at 40,000 BTU/h maximum, the burner uses a manual valve with a standing pilot — no remote or wall switch capability. Its three-tier design produces tall, robust flames, with top flames typically reaching 3 to 5 inches above and between the logs, center flames being the tallest, and ember flames sitting approximately 0.25 to 1 inch above the front ember bed. Licensed HVAC or gas-appliance technicians perform this installation under applicable gas codes.

This burner fits indoor, single-sided fireplaces with a minimum front width of 25 inches, rear width of 20 inches, depth of 15 inches measured from inside the lip, and height of 17 inches. It is approved for mobile home installations. The G31-18/20AP is designed for use with 18-inch gas log sets only; the designation 18/20 refers to the allowable log set size range. Log sets are sold separately and must be certified compatible with this specific burner. Incompatible log sets present serious risks including fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, and property damage.

Compatibility

The G31-18/20AP is compatible only with specific 18-inch certified log sets. Burner-designed log sets include Mountain Crest Oak (MCO18), Mountain Crest Split Oak (MCS18), Charred Angel Oak (CHNA18), and Charred Angel Split Oak (CHNS18). Additional compatible log sets include Charred Oak (CHD18/20), Charred American Oak (CHAO18/20), Charred Royal English Oak (CHB18/20), and Charred Split (CHS18/20). This burner cannot be used with any log set not expressly listed as certified for the G31 burner. Remote control and wall switch operation are not available for this unit.

Installation Notes

Installation must be performed by a licensed gas technician or qualified HVAC professional in accordance with NFPA 54 and all applicable local gas codes. Shut off the gas supply at the shutoff valve and verify zero pressure before making any connections. Confirm fireplace dimensions meet the published minimums before fitting the burner pan. The damper must be secured in the open position using the included damper clamp whenever the burner is in service.
