The RH PETERSON G31-18/20 is a three-tiered, match-light vented gas log burner designed for natural gas operation in wood-burning fireplaces that have been retrofitted with a gas supply line. Rated at 40,000 BTU/h maximum output, this burner uses a tiered pan-and-grate design to produce tall, layered flames with a prominent center flame while consuming fewer BTUs than comparable vented burner systems. The burner ships as a complete system including a burner pan with integrated grate, sand, glowing embers, Lava Fyre Coals, lava granules, Bryte Coals, a flex connector kit, and a damper clamp. Log sets are sold separately. Installation and service must be performed by a qualified gas appliance technician.
This burner is rated for indoor, single-sided, vented fireplaces only. It is approved for mobile home installations. Minimum fireplace opening requirements are 25 inches front width, 20 inches rear width, 15 inches depth measured from inside the lip, and 17 inches height. The G31-18/20 is compatible exclusively with 18-inch gas log sets from an approved list. It is not compatible with remote controls or wall switches. This burner is not suitable for propane or any dual-fuel application — natural gas supply only.
The G31-18/20 is certified for use only with specific 18-inch log sets. Designed log sets include Mountain Crest Oak (MCO18), Mountain Crest Split Oak (MCS18), Charred Angel Oak (CHNA18), and Charred Angel Split Oak (CHNS18). Additional compatible log sets include Charred Oak (CHD18/20), Charred American Oak (CHAO18/20), Charred Royal English Oak (CHB18/20), and Charred Split (CHS18/20). Use with any non-listed log set creates a risk of fire, carbon monoxide exposure, and property damage. Log sets are not universal — verify compatibility before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed gas technician in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code (NFPA 54) and all applicable local codes. Before servicing or installing, shut off the gas supply at the main valve and confirm the line is fully depressurized. The gas supply connection is 1/2 inch; inlet gas pressure must be maintained between 5.0 inches water column minimum and 10.5 inches water column maximum. Because this is a vented appliance, the fireplace damper must remain open during operation — the included damper clamp is required to prevent accidental closure.
