The RH PETERSON G31-18/20-17 is a three-tiered vented natural gas log burner designed for installation in a wood-burning fireplace that has been fitted with a gas supply line. It operates on a millivolt system with a standing pilot and includes a variable flame remote with receiver, transmitter, and batteries. At a maximum output of 40,000 BTU/h, it produces tall, robust center flames while consuming fewer BTUs than comparable vented burner systems. Top flames are designed to reach approximately 3 inches to 5 inches above and between the logs, with ember flames approximately 1/4 inch to 1 inch above the ember bed. A licensed gas technician or qualified HVAC professional handles installation.
This burner is rated for single-sided, indoor, vented fireplaces burning natural gas. It is approved for mobile home installations. Minimum fireplace opening dimensions required are 25 inches front width, 20 inches rear width, 15 inches depth measured from inside the lip, and 17 inches height. The G31-18/20-17 is certified for use with specific 18-inch log sets only. Designed log sets include Mountain Crest Oak (MCO18), Mountain Crest Split Oak (MCS18), Charred Angel Oak (CHNA18), and Charred Angel Split Oak (CHNS18). Additional compatible log sets include Charred Oak (CHD18/20), Charred American Oak (CHAO18/20), Charred Royal English Oak (CHB18/20), and Charred Split (CHS18/20). Log set is sold separately.
Certified for use exclusively with specific 18-inch log sets: Mountain Crest Oak (MCO18), Mountain Crest Split Oak (MCS18), Charred Angel Oak (CHNA18), Charred Angel Split Oak (CHNS18), Charred Oak (CHD18/20), Charred American Oak (CHAO18/20), Charred Royal English Oak (CHB18/20), and Charred Split (CHS18/20). This burner is NOT universal. Using it with a non-listed log set creates risk of fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, and property damage.
Installation must be performed by a licensed gas technician or qualified contractor in accordance with local codes and the applicable fuel-gas code (IFGC or NFPA 54). Shut off the gas supply at the main valve and confirm zero pressure before making any connections. The fireplace damper must be secured in the open position using the included damper clamp whenever the burner is in operation. Verify inlet gas pressure falls within the specified range before lighting the standing pilot.
