The RESIDEO s8801a1118 is a two-rod external direct spark ignition (DSI) control designed for gas-fired appliances that require integrated fan relay operation, pressure switch input, ignition sequencing, flame monitoring, and safety shutoff. With a 4-second ignition trial time and a matching 4-second lockout timing, the control moves quickly through its startup sequence and shuts down safely on ignition failure. A built-in lockout alarm terminal provides a signal output when the control enters lockout, supporting diagnostic connections to building controls or alarm systems. Licensed HVAC technicians and gas appliance service professionals are the typical installers.
The s8801a1118 is suited for residential and light commercial gas-fired appliances using direct spark ignition systems. A minimum 30-second pre-purge time is enforced before each ignition attempt, clearing the combustion chamber of residual gas before the spark sequence begins. The two-rod flame sense configuration keeps the ignition electrode and the flame sense electrode separate, which improves flame detection reliability in appliances where electrode placement geometry demands independent sensing. Applications include gas furnaces, unit heaters, and similar appliances engineered for DSI control boards of this type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement control for gas-fired appliances that use external direct spark ignition systems with two-rod flame sensing and require fan relay, pressure switch input, and lockout alarm output.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or qualified gas appliance service professional. Disconnect power and shut off the gas supply to the appliance before removing or installing the ignition control. Work should comply with the appliance manufacturer's wiring diagram and applicable codes including the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC). Do not bypass or jumper the pressure switch input or flame sense circuit during or after installation.
