The RESEARCH PRODUCTS 8920w is a Wi-Fi enabled programmable thermostat in the Aprilaire 8900 Series, designed for residential and light commercial HVAC systems. It operates on 18 to 30 VAC with a current draw of 1 to 2.5 amps and includes battery backup as its power source. The thermostat supports up to 4 heat and 2 cool stages for conventional systems, or 3 heat and 3 cool stages for heat pump configurations. A 20.4 square-inch full-color touchscreen with universal display provides clear control and navigation. Temperature accuracy is rated at plus or minus 1 degree F, covering a heating setpoint range of 40 to 90 degrees F and a cooling range of 50 to 99 degrees F. Licensed HVAC technicians install this unit in new construction and retrofit applications alike.
The 8920w is suited for residential and light commercial forced-air heating and cooling systems, including gas furnaces, heat pumps, and multi-stage equipment. Its 7-day programmable schedule supports varied daily setpoint profiles, making it appropriate for occupied buildings with changing occupancy patterns. The wide terminal designation set — including W, W2, W3/B, Y, Y2, Y3/O, G, HUM, DHNO, DHNC, DHCOM, VENT, EAC, RAT, LAT, and ODT — supports integration with humidification, dehumidification, ventilation, and air cleaning accessories. The ambient operating range of 32 to 120 degrees F and 5 to 90 percent RH non-condensing humidity tolerance covers typical indoor installation environments.
Designed for use with multi-stage conventional heating and cooling systems as well as heat pump systems; compatible with humidification, dehumidification, ventilation, and electronic air cleaning accessories via dedicated terminals as listed in the terminal designation set provided in the input data.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician following applicable local codes and the manufacturer wiring diagram. Power down the air handler or furnace at the disconnect or breaker before removing the existing thermostat and making new wiring connections. Confirm all low-voltage wiring connections match the terminal designations on the 8920w sub-base before restoring power. Wi-Fi commissioning and IAQ accessory wiring should be completed and verified before closing the job.
