The RESEARCH PRODUCTS 6612 is a round zone damper with an integrated synchronous motor, designed for use in residential and light commercial HVAC zoning systems. It operates on a power-closed, spring-open actuation sequence, meaning the motor drives the blade closed and the spring returns it to the open position on power loss — a fail-safe configuration common in multi-zone forced-air applications. The motor runs at 24 volts AC at 60 Hz, draws 6 watts, and is rated at 10 VA. At 12.75 inches in length, this damper fits standard round duct runs and is compatible with both rigid metal ductwork and flexible duct installations.
The 6612 is used in zoned forced-air HVAC systems where individual rooms or areas require independent temperature control. The round form factor and galvanized steel construction make it suitable for new construction and retrofit installs alike. Adjustable blade positioning allows the installer to fine-tune airflow for balancing purposes. An integrated foam seal reduces air bypass around the blade when the damper is in the closed position. Licensed HVAC technicians typically install this damper as part of a zone control system paired with a zone controller board and low-voltage thermostat wiring.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation zone damper for residential and light commercial forced-air zoning systems using round ductwork. Part of the Aprilaire 6600 Series zone damper product line.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician familiar with low-voltage zoning controls and ductwork. Power down the air handler and de-energize all low-voltage control circuits before installing or replacing the damper. Ensure the damper is oriented correctly with respect to airflow direction as marked on the unit. Secure duct connections per local mechanical code requirements and verify motor operation through the zone controller before returning the system to service.
