The RECTORSEAL n4162 is a 2-pole definite-purpose contactor rated for 40 amps at 120 volts. Contactors of this type are switching devices used in HVAC systems to control the electrical load to compressors, condenser fan motors, and other high-draw components. When the thermostat or control board sends a low-voltage signal to the coil, the contactor closes the load circuit, energizing the equipment. HVAC technicians install and replace these units during routine maintenance, troubleshooting compressor hard-start conditions, or when contact pitting and coil failure are confirmed.
This contactor is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC applications. It is commonly found in split-system air conditioners and heat pumps, installed inside the condensing unit disconnect compartment. The 2-pole configuration handles both legs of a 240-volt load circuit while the 120-volt coil voltage is appropriate for systems where the control transformer outputs 120 volts to the contactor coil circuit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement contactor for residential and light commercial HVAC condensing units requiring a 2-pole, 40-amp, 120-volt coil contactor.
Installation and replacement should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. Disconnect and lock out all power to the condensing unit at the disconnect box before handling the contactor. Transfer load and coil wires one at a time to avoid miswiring, and verify coil voltage matches the control circuit before energizing. Work must comply with applicable NEC requirements and local electrical codes.
