The RECTORSEAL M12140 is an oval run capacitor rated at 80 microfarads (MFD) and 440 volts, designed to support the continuous operation of single-phase AC motors in HVAC equipment. Run capacitors maintain a phase shift in the motor winding to keep the motor running efficiently after startup. This unit is commonly installed in condensing units, air handlers, and packaged rooftop systems where compressors or fan motors require a dedicated run capacitor. Licensed HVAC technicians install and replace these components during routine seasonal maintenance or when a failed capacitor is identified as the cause of motor start or run failures.
This oval-format capacitor fits standard capacitor mounting brackets and saddle clamps found in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. It is suited for condenser fan motors, blower motors, and compressors that call for an 80 MFD run capacitor at 440 volts. Its oval housing measures 1.88 inches wide by 3.56 inches long by 5.25 inches tall, making it compatible with enclosures that have limited depth clearance where a round capacitor would not fit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement run capacitor for residential and light commercial HVAC motors requiring an 80 MFD, 440-volt oval capacitor.
Run capacitors must be installed by a qualified HVAC technician. Always disconnect and lock out power to the unit before servicing capacitors, and discharge any stored energy using an insulated resistor tool before handling. Verify the MFD and voltage ratings on the existing capacitor before installing the replacement, as an incorrect rating will damage the motor. Follow applicable NEC guidelines and the equipment manufacturer's service instructions during installation.
