The RECTORSEAL 14031 is a purple-dyed PVC primer formulated to prepare PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings before solvent cement application. Purple dye provides a visible inspection indicator, confirming that surfaces have been properly primed prior to joining. The primer penetrates and softens the pipe surface, promoting a stronger, more reliable solvent-welded joint. It is used by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on potable water, drain-waste-vent (DWV), and irrigation systems where code-required joint integrity is essential.
This primer is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing installations involving PVC or CPVC pipe. It is applied before solvent cement on both the pipe end and the fitting socket to ensure full surface preparation. The 0.5-pint container size is practical for service calls, small repairs, and rough-in work where a full quart is unnecessary. Plumbing inspectors commonly require purple primer on visible joints to verify proper preparation was performed before cementing.
Designed for use with PVC and CPVC pipe and fittings in plumbing, DWV, and irrigation systems where solvent-cement joining is required.
Application should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and local jurisdiction requirements. Apply primer to both the pipe end and the fitting socket using the applicator, allow it to flash off briefly, then apply solvent cement while surfaces are still wet. Work in a well-ventilated area and keep primer away from open flame, as the solvent content is flammable. Do not use primer as a substitute for solvent cement.
