The RAYPAK H611250 is a self-regulating electric heat trace cable designed to protect pipes from freezing during cold weather conditions. Sold under the Raychem WinterGuard line, this freeze protection cable automatically adjusts its heat output based on the surrounding temperature, drawing more power when conditions drop and less as ambient temps rise. It is installed along exposed or vulnerable pipe runs in residential and light commercial applications. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the typical installers, though experienced electricians also handle heat trace installations where code permits.
The H611250 is suited for use on water supply lines, drain pipes, and other pipe runs exposed to freezing temperatures, including pipes routed through unconditioned spaces such as crawl spaces, attics, garages, and exterior walls. The self-regulating design makes it appropriate for a wide range of pipe materials and diameters without risk of overheating. It is commonly installed as a winterization measure on both new construction and retrofit projects in cold climate regions.
Designed as an OEM-style freeze protection solution for residential and light commercial pipe heat trace applications where self-regulating electric cable is specified.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified tradesperson in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. Always de-energize the circuit before making connections or modifications to the heat trace system. The cable should be applied along the underside of the pipe and secured with appropriate tape or attachment clips rated for heat trace use. Do not overlap the cable on itself, as this can cause localized overheating.
