The RAIN BIRD Y65550 is a 5000 Plus series shrub rotor sprinkler head equipped with a pressure-compensating (PC) nozzle, a seal-a-matic (SAM) check valve, and a pressure-regulating stem (PRS). These three integrated features work together to reduce misting, prevent low-head drainage, and maintain consistent precipitation rates across a zone. The unit accepts a 3/4 inch inlet connection and is designed for above-ground shrub or riser-mount installations. Irrigation contractors and landscape professionals install this rotor in residential and light commercial turf and shrub zones where pressure variation and low-head drainage are common problems.
This shrub rotor is suited for residential and light commercial irrigation systems where consistent water distribution is required in planted beds, slopes, or areas with mixed elevation changes. The above-ground shrub-mount configuration makes it a practical choice for dense plantings where pop-up rotors would be obstructed. The PC nozzle helps maintain uniform application rates when system pressure fluctuates across a run of heads, and the SAM feature stops water from trickling out of low-elevation heads after the zone shuts off.
Designed as an OEM-style component in the RAIN BIRD 5000 Plus rotor series for shrub and riser-mount irrigation applications. Verify inlet thread size and nozzle arc range against existing system requirements before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified irrigation contractor following local irrigation and plumbing codes. Shut off the irrigation system and relieve line pressure before threading the rotor onto the riser or swing joint. Use pipe tape on threaded connections and avoid over-tightening, which can crack the body. Confirm zone operating pressure falls within the rated range of the PRS stem before returning the system to service.
