The RACO 949 is a steel low voltage partition designed to divide gang boxes into separate compartments. Electricians use it to separate low voltage wiring — such as voice, data, and communications cabling — from line voltage power circuits within a shared enclosure. Built for a box depth of 2.5 inches, this partition installs directly into compatible RACO gang boxes without additional hardware. The steel construction provides a durable, rigid divider that maintains the physical separation required by code between power and low voltage systems. Sold in a standard package of 25, it suits installations where multiple boxes require the same configuration.
This partition is intended for residential and light commercial electrical rough-in work where gang boxes serve dual purposes — housing both standard power devices and low voltage components such as data jacks, telephone connections, or speaker wiring. It is used on RACO 941, 942, 943, 944, and 945 series gang boxes and is a common component in structured wiring installations, new construction, and retrofit projects where code-compliant separation of circuit types is required.
Designed for use with RACO 941, 942, 943, 944, and 945 series gang boxes with a box depth of 2.5 inches.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician during rough-in or device installation. Power must be shut off at the breaker before working inside any energized enclosure. The partition should be positioned to maintain physical separation between line voltage conductors and low voltage wiring in accordance with NEC Article 800 and any applicable local codes. Do not force the partition into boxes outside the specified compatibility list.
