The RACO 696 is a two-gang masonry electrical box designed for flush installation in concrete block, brick, and other masonry wall construction. Built to accept standard duplex receptacles, switches, and similar wiring devices, this box provides a code-compliant rough-in point in masonry wall assemblies. At 3-1/2 inches deep, it offers adequate volume for wire management in commercial and residential masonry construction. Licensed electricians install this box during the rough-in phase, embedding it in mortar joints or setting it into block cavities before wall finishing begins.
This box is intended for use in masonry wall applications where standard metal stud or wood-framed boxes are not suitable. Typical installations include commercial buildings, schools, warehouses, and multi-family residential projects where concrete block or brick walls are common. The two-gang configuration accommodates side-by-side device mounting under a standard two-gang cover plate. It ships 25 units per carton, making it practical for contractors stocking a jobsite.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard rough-in solution for two-gang masonry wall electrical installations requiring a 3-1/2 inch deep box.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician during the masonry rough-in phase, before wall finishing. Power must be off and the circuit must be verified de-energized before making any wiring connections. Installation should comply with applicable NEC requirements for box fill, support, and device mounting in masonry assemblies. Ensure the box is set plumb and flush with the finished wall surface before mortar sets.
