The RACO 278 is a 4-inch octagonal concrete ceiling ring designed for use in poured-concrete construction where an electrical outlet box extension is needed. This ring provides a 3-1/2-inch depth to accommodate wiring connections and device mounting in concrete ceiling applications. It is installed by licensed electricians during the rough-in phase of commercial and residential construction, typically before concrete is poured. The ring establishes the correct setback for the outlet box so that box faces align flush with the finished ceiling surface after the pour.
This concrete ring is suited for poured-concrete ceiling and slab installations in residential and light commercial construction. It is used in conjunction with standard 4-inch octagonal outlet boxes and is positioned on formwork prior to the concrete pour. The 3-1/2-inch depth makes it appropriate for thicker slab applications where standard extension rings would not provide adequate depth. Electricians working on multi-family, commercial, or concrete-framed residential projects will find this a standard rough-in component.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard rough-in component for use with 4-inch octagonal electrical outlet boxes in poured-concrete ceiling and slab construction.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician during the concrete forming stage, prior to the pour. Secure the ring to the formwork so it remains stationary when concrete is placed. Verify box depth and setback requirements comply with local codes and NEC guidelines before the pour. Do not reposition or adjust the ring after concrete has cured.
