The RAB T8-17-48G-840-SD-BYP is a 4-foot glass T8 LED linear tube rated at 17 watts and delivering 2200 lumens at 4000K (neutral white) with a minimum 80 CRI. Designed as a direct fluorescent replacement, this tube operates in ballast bypass mode, meaning the existing fluorescent ballast is removed and the fixture is rewired to run line voltage directly to the lamp holders. Supporting both single-ended and double-ended wiring configurations, it gives installers flexibility to match the bypass method to the fixture type on hand. Licensed electricians and commercial lighting contractors are the primary installers for this type of retrofit.
This tube is suited for commercial and light industrial applications including offices, warehouses, retail spaces, schools, and parking structures where T8 fluorescent lamps are being phased out. The 4000K color temperature is a common specification for task and general ambient lighting in commercial interiors. At 17 watts replacing a standard 32-watt T8 fluorescent, the energy reduction is significant for facilities running large quantities of fixtures. The glass construction provides a light output profile comparable to traditional fluorescent tubes.
Designed as a direct ballast-bypass replacement for 4-foot T8 fluorescent lamp positions in standard bi-pin (G13) lamp holders after fluorescent ballast removal and fixture rewiring.
Ballast bypass installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NEC requirements, as line voltage is present at the lamp holders after conversion. De-energize the circuit at the breaker and verify zero voltage with a meter before removing the ballast or rewiring tombstones. Follow the manufacturer wiring diagram for the selected single-ended or double-ended configuration, as incorrect wiring can create a shock hazard or damage the lamp. Shunted tombstones must be replaced with non-shunted tombstones for single-ended wiring configurations.
