The PROTO J5538 is a standard-length 12-point hand socket designed for 3/4-inch drive ratchets, breaker bars, and extension bars. Built from alloy steel with a chrome-plated finish, it accepts 1-3/16-inch fasteners and meets ASME B107.110-2012 dimensional and performance standards. At 2-7/32 inches overall length, it fits in tight spaces without sacrificing strength. This socket is suited for heavy-duty mechanical work including industrial maintenance, fleet service, and equipment repair where larger fastener sizes are common.
This socket is used in commercial, industrial, and fleet maintenance environments wherever 1-3/16-inch hex fasteners need to be driven or removed. The 12-point profile provides more engagement positions than a 6-point socket, making it useful when swing arc is limited. It is not tether capable, so it is best suited for ground-level or bench-level applications rather than overhead work at height. Licensed mechanics, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
Designed for use with 3/4-inch drive ratchets, extensions, and breaker bars that accept standard square-drive sockets. Fits 1-3/16-inch fasteners in standard and metric-adjacent applications requiring that size.
Install and remove using a 3/4-inch drive ratchet or breaker bar. Ensure the fastener and socket are fully seated before applying torque to avoid rounding. This socket is not rated for tethered use and should not be used in overhead drop-hazard environments. Inspect the socket and drive mechanism for wear or cracks before each use.
