The PROTO J5008H is a deep hand socket designed for professional hand-tool use in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general trade applications. It accepts a 3/8 inch drive and fits a 1/4 inch fastener with a 6-point contact geometry, which reduces rounding on worn or corroded hex fasteners compared to 12-point designs. The deep-length profile provides clearance to reach recessed bolts, studs, and fasteners that a standard-depth socket cannot access. Finished with a chrome plating, it resists corrosion and wipes clean easily in a shop environment. At 0.12 pounds, it is a compact, lightweight addition to any service kit.
This socket is suited for residential and commercial service work where recessed 1/4 inch fasteners are common, including equipment panels, control board mounting hardware, junction box hardware, and similar fastener applications. Its 6-point design is preferred in tight-access scenarios where slippage and fastener damage must be minimized. The deep-length body is particularly useful when working around standoffs, long studs, or threaded rod installations.
Designed as an OEM-style professional hand socket compatible with standard 3/8 inch drive ratchets, extensions, and torque wrenches accepting a 3/8 inch square drive.
This socket is installed by qualified trades using standard 3/8 inch drive hand tools. Always ensure the drive tool and socket are fully seated on the fastener before applying torque to prevent slippage. De-energize and lock out electrical equipment before using hand tools in panel or control-board environments per NFPA 70E guidelines. Inspect the socket for cracks or deformation before use and remove from service if damage is found.
