The PROTO J4917MCF is an open end crowfoot wrench designed for use with standard 1/4-inch drive torque wrenches and extensions. The crowfoot head measures 1-3/32 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick, allowing access to fasteners in confined spaces where conventional wrenches cannot reach. The chrome-plated finish provides corrosion resistance for extended tool life in shop and field environments. At 1-23/32 inches overall length and 0.13 pounds, this wrench is sized for precision work on metric fasteners and meets ASME B107.21 and federal specification GGG-C-1507b. It is suited for automotive, mechanical, and industrial maintenance technicians.
This crowfoot wrench is used wherever torque must be applied to a fastener in a recessed or obstructed location. Common applications include HVAC compressor fittings, plumbing connections, engine accessory mounting bolts, and hydraulic line fittings. The open end design accepts hex fasteners from the side, which is useful when there is no top clearance for a socket. Metric sizing makes this tool appropriate for equipment manufactured to metric standards.
Designed for use with 1/4-inch drive torque wrenches and extension bars as an OEM-style crowfoot attachment for metric fastener applications.
Install this crowfoot wrench onto a calibrated torque wrench or breaker bar before engaging the fastener. When using a crowfoot at an angle offset from the torque wrench drive axis, apply a correction factor to achieve accurate torque output per standard mechanical procedures. Ensure the fastener head is fully seated in the open end jaws before applying torque to prevent rounding. Always wear appropriate hand protection when working in confined mechanical spaces.
