The PROTO J49014 is a roll pin punch designed for driving and removing roll pins, also known as spring pins or slotted spring pins, from machinery, assemblies, and mechanical components. Built from steel, this punch measures 1/4 inch at the tip and has an overall length of 6-7/16 inches, with a tip length of 3-1/2 inches. The extended tip length gives technicians the reach needed to work through housings or deep bores. This tool is standard equipment for machinists, millwrights, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance professionals who service pin-retained components in the field or shop.
Roll pin punches are used wherever roll pins secure shafts, gears, levers, or linkages. The J49014 is suited for light to medium-duty assembly and disassembly tasks on equipment where 1/4-inch roll pins are specified. Typical applications include drive shafts, valve linkages, and mechanical control assemblies found in both commercial and residential mechanical systems. The 6-7/16-inch overall length allows one-handed use with a ball-peen or brass hammer in confined work areas.
Designed as an OEM-style hand tool for use with standard 1/4-inch roll pins across a wide range of mechanical assemblies and equipment types.
Use with a ball-peen hammer or brass mallet rated for punch work. Secure the workpiece before driving to prevent movement that can damage the pin bore or surrounding components. Always wear safety glasses when striking punches. Inspect the punch tip before each use and replace if the tip shows mushrooming or deformation.
