The PROTO J4712TM is a 12mm, 12-point hand socket designed for professional fastener work in mechanical, industrial, and maintenance applications. Built from alloy steel with a chrome-plated finish, it provides durability and corrosion resistance under regular shop use. The 1/4-inch drive size suits smaller fasteners where controlled torque and tight access are priorities. At a standard length of 7/8 inch overall, this socket fits into confined spaces common in precision mechanical work. It meets AS4984A and ASME B107.110-2012 standards, making it appropriate for quality-controlled trade environments.
This socket is used by mechanics, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working on light-duty fastener applications requiring a 12mm, 12-point fit. The 12-point geometry allows engagement at 30-degree intervals, which is useful in tight quarters where ratchet swing is limited. It is suited for automotive, HVAC equipment panels, and general mechanical assemblies where a 1/4-inch drive ratchet or extension is in use.
Designed as a standard 1/4-inch drive hand socket compatible with 1/4-inch drive ratchets, extensions, and accessories following ASME B107.110-2012 dimensional standards.
Install and remove using a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, breaker bar, or T-handle. Ensure the socket is fully seated on the fastener before applying torque to avoid rounding. Inspect the socket for cracks or wear before use, and do not use impact drivers with a hand socket not rated for impact service. This part is not tether capable and should not be used in tethered-tool applications.
