The PROMAX 157-03214 is a single-end ball end mill designed for both roughing and finishing operations on ferrous and high-performance materials. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it carries a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that extends tool life in high-heat cutting environments. The 4-flute, high-helix geometry at 40 degrees promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish quality. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter and a 0.25-inch nose radius, this tool produces accurate ball-form profiles in molds, dies, and contoured workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers will find it suited for production runs where tool consistency and wear resistance matter.
This end mill is intended for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium - material classification codes P, M, K, and S. The straight-cylindrical 0.5-inch shank fits standard ER and side-lock holders found on vertical machining centers and multi-axis CNC equipment. Its standard length classification and 3-inch overall length make it appropriate for general-purpose CNC milling where extended reach is not required. It is not configured for coolant-through or extended-reach applications.
Designed for use in standard 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and runout specifications. Verify spindle and toolholder cleanliness before seating the shank to maintain the specified shank diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to -0.0004 inches. Confirm tool runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cutting program, especially when machining superalloys or titanium where tool deflection directly affects surface finish and tool life. Do not exceed the machine spindle's rated speed or axial depth-of-cut limits for this tool diameter.
