The PROMAX 120-01424 is a solid carbide roughing finishing end mill designed for high-performance material removal and finish-quality results in a single tool. With a 0.2188-inch diameter, 4 flutes, and a 0.02-inch corner radius end geometry, it handles both aggressive roughing passes and finish contouring in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The AlTiN coating extends tool life at elevated temperatures, making this mill well suited for dry or minimal-lubrication machining environments. A 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. This tool is selected and installed by machinists and CNC programmers running production or job-shop milling operations.
The 120-01424 is used in vertical and horizontal milling centers for slotting, profiling, and contouring applications where a corner radius is required to reduce stress concentrations on the workpiece. The 0.375-inch length of cut and 2-inch overall length make it practical for shallow-to-moderate-depth pockets. A 0.25-inch shank diameter fits standard ER and end mill holders common in most CNC machining setups. It is suited for cutting tool steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, and hardened materials where the AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 0.2188-inch diameter, 4-flute corner radius end mills with a 0.25-inch shank in standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders used in CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe lockout state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and torque the collet nut or set screw per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a small-diameter carbide end mill.
