The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6007103 is a plug-style hand tap engineered for cutting internal threads in through-holes and blind holes in a wide range of workpiece materials. Part of the 1500 series, this tap features a straight-flute, 4-flute design ground to H3 tolerance for consistent thread accuracy. The plug chamfer style provides a 1.5-inch depth of cutting, making it suitable for general-purpose tapping operations where a starting chamfer and full thread engagement are both required. Weighing 0.108 pounds, the tap is sized for 1/2-13 coarse thread at a total length of 3.375 inches. Fabricated from cobalt steel with a bronze finish, it offers increased hardness and heat resistance compared to standard high-speed steel taps.
This tap is designed for general-purpose threading applications across metalworking, maintenance, and fabrication environments. The 1/2-13 coarse thread specification is one of the most common Unified National Coarse (UNC) thread sizes, making this tap a frequent choice for machine shops, maintenance technicians, and industrial trades working with fastener holes in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The straight-flute geometry works well in through-hole and shorter blind-hole applications where chips can be cleared from the cutting zone.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose plug tap for standard 1/2-13 UNC straight-flute tapping applications in compatible tap handles and machine holders.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench or machine tapping setup. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for a 1/2-13 thread before starting. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping to break and clear chips and prevent tap breakage in tougher materials.
