The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001482 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials. It accepts a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) shank, making it compatible with drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a matching spindle socket. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide finish that provides light corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. The 118-degree standard point with web thinning allows for accurate starting and efficient chip evacuation. This bit is used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance professionals in light industrial and production settings.
This drill bit is suited for right-hand, general-purpose drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 12.00 mm (0.4724 inch) diameter, combined with a 3.9764-inch spiral flute length, gives it a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio appropriate for moderate-depth holes. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes steady chip removal in through-hole and blind-hole applications on drill presses, engine lathes, and manual milling machines. No coolant-through capability is built in, so external coolant or cutting oil should be applied when drilling harder materials.
Designed for use in machine tool spindles with a No. 1 Morse Taper socket, including drill presses, engine lathes, and milling machines configured for 1MT tooling.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank taper and the spindle socket thoroughly before insertion to ensure full seating and prevent runout. Use a drift and drift slot to remove the bit safely — never strike the spindle housing directly. Apply cutting oil or an appropriate metalworking fluid at the cutting zone when drilling steel or harder alloys.
