The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001473 is a No. 19 wire gauge high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling in metal and composite materials. The 135-degree split point geometry is self-centering, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. A spiral flute with web thinning and a tapered web configuration improves chip evacuation and reduces thrust. The oxide finish provides mild corrosion resistance and helps retain cutting fluid. At 0.166 inches in diameter and 6 inches overall length, this bit is suited for applications where standard-length drills cannot reach.
This drill bit is used in aerospace fabrication, aircraft maintenance and repair, and general metalworking where extended reach is required. The Series 501-6 designation identifies it as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards. It is appropriate for use in tight bays, structural panels, and assemblies where a standard jobber-length bit lacks the clearance or reach to complete the hole. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and hand-drill operation. Typical installers include aviation maintenance technicians, sheet metal fabricators, and general machine shop operators.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use aircraft extension drill conforming to NAS 907 Type B, suitable for use with standard 0.166-inch straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks in hand drills, drill presses, and right-angle drill adapters.
This drill bit is installed by aviation maintenance technicians and metalworking professionals following applicable maintenance manuals and shop procedures. Secure the workpiece before drilling and ensure the drill chuck is tightened fully to prevent shank slippage. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling steel or hard alloys to extend tool life and improve hole quality. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use and discard the bit if the cutting edges are damaged.
