The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001460 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The straight shank measures 0.3346 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 6.5 inches. The spiral flute length runs 4.28 inches, yielding a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio that suits deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit falls short. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance trades install this bit in standard drill presses, CNC machines, and hand drills.
The 6001460 suits drilling operations in metals, plastics, and composites where a longer reach than a jobber bit is required without stepping up to a full extra-length drill. Rated for right-hand cut with a regular spiral, it performs in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high strength bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, graphite, cermet, and hardened steel. The Series 5ATL designation follows DIN 340 standards, making it a recognized specification in both domestic and international machining environments.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit conforming to DIN 340 specifications, suitable for use in standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders accepting a 0.3346-inch straight shank.
Install in a drill press, CNC spindle, or hand drill with a chuck rated for the 0.3346-inch straight shank diameter. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before beginning the cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, as dry cutting in ferrous metals will accelerate edge wear. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and resharpen or replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
