The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001449 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built to Series 501-12 specifications, this bit features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a pilot hole, reducing walking and improving hole accuracy on metal and composite substrates. The 0.196-inch diameter corresponds to Wire Size 9 and is finished with an oxide coating for basic corrosion and wear resistance. At 12 inches overall length with a 2.4375-inch spiral flute, it gives trades the reach needed for airframe, structural, and fabrication drilling tasks.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in aerospace fabrication shops, sheet metal work, and structural assembly environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks without adapters. The right-hand spiral flute and web-thinned, tapered web geometry promote chip evacuation in deep-hole applications. Licensed HVAC, electrical, and mechanical contractors also reach for aircraft extension bits when drilling through deep structural members or confined cavities during system installation. General-purpose tool performance makes it appropriate for steel, aluminum, and similar materials at typical shop speeds.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit conforming to NAS 907 Type B; compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.196-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Aircraft extension drill bits are installed and used by machinists, sheet metal mechanics, and trade professionals working in structural or deep-cavity applications. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation to prevent runout or bit ejection. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Operate at speeds appropriate for the material and bit diameter; consult published feeds-and-speeds charts for high speed steel bits in the target material.
